The Upcoming Kisumu City Permaculture Academy has taken the eco-secrets of the Octagon in eco-friendly agro-architecture. It has 8 natural walls, 8 natural chambers, 8 natural pillars, 88 cave cottages, 888 natural secret indigenous rocky gardens integrated and surrounded with 888’ hundreds of thousands of conserved indigenous fruits and trees. It intends to roll out training programs for children, youth, adults, physically challenged, refugees and internally displaced people from February next year.

I am kindly requesting you to help up us to raise some funds to complete this great Permaculture project in Africa. I have used US$20,000 to put it up and only needs US$30,000 to complete. We shall greatly acknowledge your support as we currently stuck at the moment and any contribution shall be highly appreciated by myself and the targeted community. See link below for details

https://www.facebook.com/100000382655100/posts/2630721876950542/?app=fbl

Kisumu City Permaculture Academy is in the business of changing and shaping lives. The work we do is aimed at providing a holistic approach to solving some of our society’s biggest challenges. Our approach restores the lost livelihoods system by creating a natural agro-ecological ecosystem that enhances social, economic, human, political, environment and spiritual drivers of inclusion and prosperity. We create a community of practitioners who shares and supplements each other with eco-education, seeds, labor and food. Our mainstream permaculture strategy follows 18 Bill Mollison’s Permaculture Principles [1992] of mass regeneration and other consolidated natural principles from all scientifically proven disciplines. This will ensure self-regulating, self-sustaining, permanently productive and regenerative soils, farms, gardens and plantations for our targeted farmers. This calls for creating natural systems including water retention systems like permaculture swales and mulch basins, green manure and improved barrier slope protection.

Locally the overarching root causes of high poor soils and high poverty levels which needs to be addressed through our natural solutions.

  1. Poor and acidic soils – Add organic matter to the soil, reduce PH to recommendable level, increase biological activity, improve soil structure, reduce leaching losses and dries and warms the soil
  2. Poor farming methods – Reduce erosion, increase the supply of nutrients available to plants through nitrogen fixation, suppress weeds and Reduce pest and disease problems
  3. Overdependence on one cash crop such as maize, beans and sugarcane – provide supplementary animal forage and increase biodiversity
  4. Overdependence on rain fed agriculture – increase the soil’s water conservation, preservation and storage capacity
  5. High population density, Low level of entrepreneurial skills and Increasing number of widows, orphans and vulnerable children due to HIV and AIDS – increase production of food, nutrients and income [occupation] for humans

“OLKUNG” VILLAGE DISPENSARY is a personal dream idea rooted from my inner spirit and concern of the community. I have been working in Arusha City at various institutions at various positions and capabilities with extensive field visits to various suburbs of the Arusha City for a period of more than twelve [12] years. “Olkung” village being one among them. This village has a growing population being fueled by immigrants from all angles of Arusha characterized by mixture of tribes and ethnicity. The population of this village which has now developed to a street of its own features is twenty thousand [20,000] and above. Most of which are low and middle income earners. Big population of this area is made up of women and children of under twelve [12] years. Most of these women are small peasants, entrepreneurs and house wives.

This village has no dispensary, health centre nor hospital. Worse enough it has no even reliable pharmacy with key medicines and services in case one has receive check-up and medical prescription from the medical doctor at a health centre or hospital. The nearest dispensary to this village is at a distance of 18 kilometers and a health center at 8 kilometers. Hospital is much far away.

I have the burning spirit and concern in me toward this community knowing that a good and better community is rooted from a good health which is guaranteed by good feedings and health systems and infrastructures.

I have made step toward realizing this dreamed vision and bought a piece of land of 14,450 square meters. I have set up a building with all the necessary positions of a dispensary. The building is as seen at the image inserted in this fundraiser. I had a determination of accomplish this project late last year 2018, however due to some unavoidable reasons in my stream of income this determination was destroyed.

I have decided to come to this platform after changing my vision, mission, vision cum mission statement, objectives and goals of the entire project by inculcating in it the special unit of freely supporting medical services available within the dispensary to nine [9] children under five, nine [9] women in problems after delivery and nine [9] aged with disability of any kind from the most disadvantageous families for each month for the first three [3] of the operations and running. This one can also be checked and verified by the local authorities of this area.

The distribution of the project remaining budget which constitute the figure for your generous donation is as follows:

  • Iron sheets $ 2,200
  • Timber $ 580
  • Cement $ 900
  • Tiles $ 2,750
  • Sand $ 850
  • Stones $ 960

I am a Tanzanian citizen with a CPA [T] currently at my middle forties with Augustine Zechariah Mbuya with a Bachelor of Arts at his early forties. I am reachable on +255 (0) 769 724 451 / 784 475 339. Augustine is reachable on +255 (0) 754 985 533 / 786 017 145

Since 2016, the government of Tanzania started to implement the policy of free education from primary school up to secondary school level. Much as it has been widely welcome especially in rural areas where the citizens disposable incomes are critically low, it has resulted into a students enrollment explosion whereby the students numbers by far outstripping available schools infrastructure like classrooms etc etc.

As a case in point (see attached picture); early this November 2019, while on a visit to my rural domicile; I chanced to see a group of students sitting for their form II end of year exams while perched on pieces of bricks out in the field outside classrooms; Pitty and compassion got the better side of me; so I immediately decided to embark on a mission to help this particular school which happens to be my old school.

So first things first, since resources are scarce, I have opted to start fundraising to build at least 3 classrooms that can accommodate 120 students as per the requirement; so that once this is achieved and God willing I shall go for the second phase of the project to start fundraising for classroom desks as a measure of improving the learning conditions of the students in that school.

Kindly lend me a hand by donating generously to make this noble cause achievable. The target is to raise $ 12,500 for this noble cause.

Behind this initiative is a team of three individuals, I a retired accountant cum procurement officer called Charles Maurice Msesi (63) Cellphone +255 782 511 150 Sales and a Marketing plus Production Manager called Theophil Muganyizi Kashasha (63) Cellphone +255 687 211 770, and another a Professional Trainer and Entrepreneur called Zechariah Augustine Mtengie (42) cellphone +255 754 985 533. Generally, sports worldwide and especially football is increasingly becoming a window towards economic emancipation for the youth.

Here in Tanzania, sports has become a major undertaking that is used to “hit two birds with one stone”; on one hand it helps to keep the youth and particularly school dropouts and unemployed ones, gainfully engaged and therefore on track to sharpen their footballing skills that could eventually lead them to a paying and fulfilling football career while at the same time dissuading them from engaging in wayward behavior like partaking to drug abuse, alcohol and such other criminal activities which in the end denies them a chance to realize their dreams to become reliable and responsible members of society.

We have embarked on a mission to establish a sports academy in Arusha Tanzania with twin objectives of:-

1: Creating a potential window of economic well being for the young and unemployed school dropouts; and

2: Participating in national efforts of fighting the scourge of drug abuse, alcoholism and street violence among the youth

BUDGET PROJECTIONS

1: Land 10 acres US $ 10,000

2: Buildings (offices, Accommodation and 3 classrooms) US $ 25,000

3: Construction of the sports field US $ 15,000

4: Sports gear US $ 5,000

5: Instructional materials US $ 5,000

6: Office equipment US $ 5,000

7: Furniture US $ 5,000

Total US $ 70,000

My District in rural Kilimanjaro Region in Northern Tanzania, there a river called Muo which separates Mulo and Legho villages on one side with the main Kilema village on the other side. The combined population of Mulo & Legho is over 100,000 inhabitants. This substantial population has to cross this river on a regular basis in search for essential life services. These services are among others 1. Children ply back and forth to Kisuluni Primary and Secondary Schools 2. The sick going for attention at Kilema Hospital. 3. The Faithful attending Church at Kilema Parish. 4. Accessing Lyamombi and Kyala markets for their crops to earn a living. 5. Connecting to road transport to the rest of the region. 6. Social interaction between communities.

Unfortunately the link between the two sides is serviced by a wooden bridge contraption as shown in the image above. The bridge had seen its best days and now risks loss of lives and injuries, as it continues to decay.

There is a need to fabricate and install a permanent metal structure bridge is estimated to cost US$10,000

We are raising funds to help IDPs and war victims whom we have trained with life skills to start small gainful economic activities that can permit them pay for food, rents and medical bills for their families. We have trained more than 100 victims in entrepreneurship skills, poultry farming, piggery and Rabbit farming, mushroom and cucumber production and we are still training more. For those who do not have PayPal accounts, you can help them through mobile money 675803254

Since 2016 the conflict in NW and SW Regions of Cameroon have brought untold sufferings to civilians. Many have lost everything that they have worked for in life.

Despite having families who are entirely depend on them, they have no viable economic activities that can help Carter for their families.

Many organisations that have tried assisting them have done so by giving basic food stuffs which are largely insufficient.

many of them have relocated to safer areas in towns where they are either renting or are begging for shelters.
Whatever the case, empowering them economically remains the best option. The pilots phase of the project to empower war victims was a great success and we can assure you that your gift will be life saving.

Without buttressing the unfortunate ordeal that have befallen the people of the NW and SW Regions of Cameroon, we will like to make the following heart touching and sold searching revelations.
– While the warring parties celebrate their gains and victories, nobody seem to care about the thousands who have abandoned their farms and businesses, thousands whose businesses have been brought to ashes, thousands who now room our streets begging for shelters, food and hospital bills
– Many of us wants to give them food, the question here is, when you give them food today, who gives them tomorrow? The answer is simple, empower them economically and create a triple down effects
– many have argued that IDPs from these regions are at the relief phase and lack spaces to practice any gainful economic activity. That is not true because IDPs and conflict victims here are not confined to camps, more than 70% of them are renting and therefore can rent spaces to carry out gainful economic activities if given the resources. Many whome we have trained have done so and are still doing
– Your gift to these unfortunate victims will be treated as a passover gift. This means that if your 3000frs can buy a rabbit , we shall gift that rabbit to a beneficiary who has the space to keep rabbits, when the rabbit finally gives birth, the beneficiary will give 1 rabbit to another beneficiary under our supervision and the pass over gift continues. The same will be done for poultry, piggery, mushroom and entrepreneurship and other life skills
– Advancing Africa which is a Non Governmental Organisation that has been training these victims online and offline will supervise the passover gift and mentoring of beneficiaries
Your gift is the gift of life, there is no better gift than this one. This is more than food, more than maggi, more than mattress.

Time's Up

Dear Friends,

My husband, upon the invitation of the Council Secretary ( head of a town council) of Zimba went to make a presentation on developing councils.

One of the heart wrenching story my husband narrated upon his arrival was of how communities around Zimba are starving. The drought in Southern Province has driven its people to rely solely on wild fruits. Normally, one only eats the pulp inside the wild fruit masuku, and discards the skin which is leathery and a bit bitter. But now these remote areas, dry the skin of the masuku and pound it, mix with water and drink it just to survive.

The villagers pay Kwacha 80 to pay for public transport to take them to the Food Reserve Agency deport for a 25kg bag of maize, which is given to them at K25. Sometimes, they wait for 2 weeks before receiving this bag of maize. Ask yourself, what happens to their family waiting for that maize as staple food. Then they pay another K80 to go back home. In total one bag of maize as aid has cost the family K185. Most of the villagers are subsistence farmers with little or no income sources.

Please help the town council of Zimba raise money for the surrounding villages.

I have never used this or any other platform before. I am being conservative by asking for 20,000 USD because the need is now and urgent. I am too emotional to write any further.

Please help with any amount, and may God bless you abundantly.

  • This is a real plea that Kagabi’s civil society is making in Kabare territory for the improvement of living conditions in Kabare prison.

According to the president of this citizen structure, this prison goes through various difficulties, the most visible and the most glaring is that of hunger.

Emmanuel Bengehya notes, for example, that the lack of food is one of the biggest problems because the six million Congolese francs that KABARE prison receives per quarter are very insignificant compared to the number of prisoners. Lack of food has caused an escape recently, says Kagabi’s civil society. (That of 15 inmates on September 17, 2018 saw seven (7) return by the efforts of the population and still 8 in the wild). This situation of famine is further aggravated because the visits of family members of detainees within this structure are very limited, especially because of the distance.

“The distance is very long. To leave Kalehe, it is necessary to travel 80km before reaching Kabare prison, Walungu more than 50km and Idjwi more than 60km. While the majority of detainees are not from Kabare “says Emmanuel Bengehya.

The citizen structure also evokes the capacity of the prison (for the moment Kabare prison has 244 prisoners, including 33 minors and 6 women), the non-separation of the cells of men and women; a situation that leads to rape. Added to this is the insignificant number of police elements committed for the security of this penitentiary center.

“Adults (men) and minors are confined in the same cells; women to enter their neighborhood, they go to men with all the risks of being raped as was the case in the month of August of the current year, the lack of the number of police and / or military committed to the custody. There is also the absence of beds, mattresses, medicine and other things like locks, locks, latrine hygiene, “he denounces.

Emmanuel Bengehya also talks about security in this prison. It reveals that knives and valuables were found in this prison during the last search on September 28, 2018.

“Some detainees were brought among them, the Capita (CG), who disturbed the order in this prison. Several firearms found by the security services during this percussion. These include four knives, machetes, computer machines, guitars, nine mattresses, concrete iron says our source. Detained women claim that all these knives and valuables entered the prison for late hours, “said Kagabi’s civil society.

The Kagabi Kernel Civil Society recommends to the Provincial Government to rehabilitate the cells inside the prison, to remove the minor detainees in the cells of the adults, the creation of the own entrance of the women prisoners to their district, the increase in the security force by providing them with weapons, the rehabilitation of latrines, the availability of food, the payment of policemen committed to the guard, the overpressure of $ 70 that the Kapita requires new detainees, the strengthening of the monitoring (at least three supervisors instead of one that exists), or the people of Kabare to remain united and vigilant especially in this electoral process, and finally to the commander of the Congolese National Police to collaborate with the population to find the eight detainees of the escape of September 17, 2018.

As a reminder, Kabare Central Prison exists since 1915 with more than six cells located in the grouping of Cirunga, Chefferie of Kabare within 15km of the city of Bukavu. It serves the territories of Kabare, Kalehe, Walungu and Idjwi, notes the civil society.

HWB Uganda Chapter seeks to share knowledge on the modern art and science of indoor mushroom cultivation to 60 women. It is a profitable agri business venture capable of improving livelihoods and diets, reducing waste, empowering women and young mothers , boosting micro enterprises and conserving natural resources.

This will help the beneficiaries to afford a good source of protein that is not meat but tastes better than meat.

Problem: The problem this project is trying to address.

Food insecurity, poverty, malnutrition, pollution caused by waste and lack of employment and entrepreneurial opportunities are all eminent challenges faced by the world. The situation is worse in areas of sub Saharan Africa such as here in Bundibugyo where the Community relies on Cocoa and all the money raised after sale of the cash crop is spend on food from other neighboring Districts hence stimulating poverty.

The Specific Proposed Solution.

The project aims at introducing modern techniques in mushroom cultivation adopted from research in Agricultural Microbiology and Biotechnology. This is to be achieved by conducting training sessions. This will eventually promote its nationwide consumption. With modern skills, mushrooms that have previously been growing in the wild can now be safely cultivated indoors for household and commercial use. Mushrooms growth utilizes biodegradable waste such as maize Cobs, Mushrooms are not only delicious but also contain numerous nutritional and medicinal values among them anti HIV properties. It is an easy agricultural practice for women and young mothers especially and a suitable income generating enterprise capable of transforming a country’s economy.

IMPACT: HOW IT WORK

HWB will put up 2 mushrooms houses each containing 500 bags of mushroom substrate. After a period of about 50 days, product reaches maturity and is ready for harvest. During harvest times, each room produces an average of 12-15 Kilograms on a daily basis for a period of about 12 months. Each kilogram selling at an average farm price of 5000 Uganda shillings. Products will be packed and sold to local markets under the brand name ‘Champion mushroom wine, champion mushroom powder’. It will be a good income generating activity for HWB Uganda chapter.

At HWB Uganda chapter, the project will be a good source of income. It will not only create employment opportunities for women and young mothers , it will also create employment to the youth directly involved in the project but will also play a role in boosting their livelihoods. If the youth are empowered with skills and knowledge on how to conduct successful mushroom cultivation, it will be a definite game changer in matters nationwide concern such as: Reducing high rates of poverty levels a mongst the young people living in slums and rural areas: characterized by improved standards of living/general change in lifestyle, Improved food security/ provision of suitable source of good protein, Improvement in the status of health and nutrition amongst consumers, reducing pollution caused by agricultural waste that can otherwise be recycled, empowering micro enterprises, youth empowerment and boosting of East Africa’s’ economy. The project will impact the lives of 60 women and young mothers beneficiaires and 140 indirect beneficiaries and by the end of 2 years the project shall have impacted 600 lives .

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, strategies for scaling impact.

The project is to be started in Bundibugyo Rwenzori Region, later to be adopted in to the Midwestern Region and Central Region where the capital of Uganda is located. After conducting teaching/ training sessions, 60Young mothers and women widows are expected to grow their own mushrooms and 140 indirect beneficiaries these are determined by head count per direct beneficiary House hold members living with the benficiary. In the long run, the youth and women widows will be empowered with technical and practical skills on aspects of mushroom farming. A food type that is of numerous nutritional and health benefits will be introduced to the society and an improvement in living standards will be noted from an increase in income.

SUSTAINABILITY

Financial Sustainability Plan: Solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability.

The project is self sustainable as mushrooms have a very fast growing rate (7-18 days) and harvesting time lasts for 4 months up to one year continuing on a

daily basis. A Kilogram of mushrooms sells at an average price of 5000 UGX per Kilogram. Harvest from each room is expected to be at least 100 Kilograms per day for the entire harvest. The fund will aid in financing the training sessions and initial start up capital for selected beneficiaries.

Marketplace:

A number of farmers in some parts of the country are involved with indoor mushroom cultivation. They however are not sharing information on the technique to poor resource farmers.

The project will help to address Health and Hygiene, Improving Nutrition, Waste and Packaging, Sustainable Sourcing, Opportunities for Women, Inclusive Business, Smallholder Farmers.

Audience: identifying customer/recipient groups and value the solution for different reasons how we engage different customer/recipient groups to deliver the solution.

The Bundibugyo District , Rwenzori Region Community and the Ugandan population are the intended recipients of the product and at least 60% of the populace have at least once in there lifetimes enjoyed eating wildly grown mushrooms. A survey conducted showed that more people are willing to embrace mushroom cultivation and consumption given the numerous benefits that can be derived from the crop. They are however limited in terms of information on how to cultivate the crop.

Scaling the solution: How the funds will help to achieve the objectives over the next 3 years.

The fund will aid in financing knowledge/ information sharing on the art and science of mushroom cultivation. This will be done by conducting teaching sessions on mushroom cultivation. New farmers and markets will be reached in the process
