Over the last decade and even beyond, the rate of failure in secondary school final examinations [WAEC, NECO, and GCE] have continued to soar; in 2016 it was reported that over 70% of the students who took the exams failed!
This conundrum has been attributed to a myriad of causes: dearth of reading culture, lack of proper funding for the education sector, diminishing teacher motivation, and the list goes on. Private schools have sprung up in their thousands in hopes of mitigating the problem but little has been achieved, needless to reiterate the millions of parents that can’t afford to send their children to these [private] schools. Interestingly these young people have incredible access to the internet, whether through their mobile phones or a friends mobile, a public internet café or at home.
We believe that as this young generation becomes even more computer and internet savvy, education and learning should be available on the internet and in a way that they can connect with, thereby increasing their ability to comprehend the various subjects and their chances of succeeding at examinations. We need your help to accomplish this vision.
The Study Easy Series is a video tutorial series for secondary school students. In its first phase we want to concentrate on the final examination candidates and help them be better prepared for the exams by putting this tutorial videos on the internet, thereby making study less easy to ingest. Your support is key in bringing this vision to life.
With Study Easy secondary school students will not only be able to watch video tutorials, they’ll be able to get on-the-go support from tutors about any topic or subject they are struggling with.
With the financing contemplated herein, The Education Channel Study Easy project will be able to reach one million final year secondary school students by 2019. We can achieve this because the funds will allow us to hire the best teachers and produce high quality educational videos, embedded with functional teaching styles and tools for easy learning and comprehension of all 19 approved subjects examined in West Africa at the secondary school level; build an online portal where these contents will be assessed, and develop adequate publicity for the service.
